Girl Guiding Way

A “REAL” Experience for All

We believe that every learning experience should be meaningful, inclusive, and designed to help girls and young women grow. That’s why we aim to provide REAL experiences—ones that are Relevant, Exciting, Accessible, and Learner-led.

Through non-formal, flexible learning activities, we support each member’s personal development across key growth areas. These experiences are not just enjoyable—they empower girls to build skills, confidence, and lifelong values.

 A REAL experience means:

We utilize the Girl Guide Methods to ensure our members have a Quality Girl Guide Experience. This shared approach to informal learning operates as a system with five independent elements, designed to empower the learner to take charge of their learning and derive meaning from their experiences.

Safe Spaces at MGGA

We are committed to creating safe and brave spaces—spaces where every girl and young woman feels safe, included, and empowered to grow. A brave space encourages members to step out of their comfort zones, embrace new challenges, and become confident, compassionate leaders. Safety lies at the core of everything we do.

Safe

Every member is valued, respected, and safeguarded from harm or discrimination.
We ensure this by:
 • Conducting safeguarding training to all adult leaders, volunteers, and staff
• Maintaining a clear Code of Conduct
• Actively listening to our members and taking their opinions seriously, no matter their age

Inclusive

We champion diversity and ensure that every member can participate equally and meaningfully in the program to grow and thrive in their own way.
We ensure this by:
• Creating a space where all members are supported to develop at their own pace
• Appreciating all members to ensure they have the best learning experiences
• Having a flexible, inclusive learning approach at all levels

Empowering

All members are supported to feel confident in being themselves and take the lead in their learning journeys to develop to their fullest potential.
We ensure this by:
• Encouraging open and respectful dialogue
• Embracing diverse identities
• Promoting a culture of continuous lifelong learning

Adapting the WAGGGS Leadership Model

We follow the WAGGGS Leadership Model to guide how we grow as leaders—within Guiding and beyond. Leadership is not about titles; it’s about everyday actions that reflect our values and create positive change.

This model sees leadership as a lifelong journey, shaped by experiences, self-awareness, and a deep connection to our local context. It encourages girls and young women to lead in ways that are meaningful to them, while building inclusive, empowered communities.

Leadership in Guiding is shared, worldly, and focused on girls’ empowerment recognizing that everyone has a role in shaping a better world.
We build our leadership through six key mindsets that guide how we think, act, and grow:

Girl-Centered Space

At the Maldives Girl Guides Association, to foster a strong sense of belonging, we believe in creating girl-centered spaces designed by girls for girls—spaces where they feel safe, heard, and free to be themselves. When girls and young women lead and shape their experiences, they gain the confidence to grow, explore, and speak out without fear of judgment.

As part of the world’s largest movement for girls and young women, we are committed to building a space free from gender bias, stereotypes, and societal pressure. Here, every girl can try new things, be bold, and discover her true potential.

We create girl-centered spaces to:

Meaningful Youth Participation

We believe young people are the future, and it’s important to create youth-driven spaces. We are actively involving girls and young women, paving the way for them to participate in decision-making processes that affect them, from local units to national and even global levels.

We are committed to creating spaces where young people are considered the experts in their own lives and are informed, empowered, safe, and valued when they participate.
