Littlemaids
The Little maids programme is based on learning or developing skills, learning about other people in the community, guiding family at home and overseas and understanding about their differences and similarities.
AGE GROUP
A Littlemaid is a girl between the age of 9 and 12 years or studying at Grade 2 to 5.
THE PROMISE
“I promise to do my duty to Allah and country to help other people every day especially those at home and to obey the little maids’ laws”
THE LAW
A Little maids gives into older folk. A little maids does not give into herself
THE LITTLEMAIDS MOTTO
“Lend a Hand”
Little maid Motto is “lend a Hand” to lend a hand means that as a Littlemaids you are always ready to lend a hand to your family, friends and others who need help.
THE LITTLEMAIDS SIGN
The little maids Sign is a special way of saying “Hello” to everyone in Guiding.
THE LITTLEMAID SALUTE
Salute is used to show that we are all in the little maids’ family.
• At an Enrolment Ceremony
• At a presentation of awards ceremony
• When the World Flag is being carried ceremonially
• When the National Anthem is being played or sung
The three fingers folded remind us the three fold promise
GOOD TURNS
If you help someone without expecting a reward it is good turn.
A guide should do at least one good turn a day. This is a golden rule of guides all over the world. When you do something to help you are doing a good turn.
THE LITTLEMAID HAND SHAKE
Little maids shake the hand with right hand.
THE PENNANT
The flag used for little maid is called the pennant. This is used for our ceremonies and in our meetings. The pennant has little maid badge on a side of a triangular piece of blue clothe.
THE LITTLEMAID PACK
The Little maid pack is divided into group of six. Each six under a Guider or “sixer” and she is helped by a “second”. Each six has its own badge and rhyme.
THE STRUCTURE OF A LITTLEMAID PACK
THE LITTLEMAID UNIFORM
- · Should not wear any other badges that is not shown in the illustration
- · Should wear black ribbon on your hair
- · If your hair is long plait it neatly
- · If you wear burga (head covering) it should be white in colour
- · Should be worn with white shoes and white sock
- · Should not wear any jewellery or makeup (except for a simple ear ring
Official Uniform
The official uniform is white coloured. The official uniform is only worn by enrolled members. So for the first time the official uniform is worn for the little maids’ enrolment ceremony. Official uniform should be worn to the first meeting of each month.
Workng Uniform
· The working uniform is white coloured T shirt with dark blue divided skirt as shown in the drawing. Working uniform will be worn at all unofficial meetings. Can also wear the working uniform even if you are not enrolled
THE LITTLEMAID PROGRAM
Enrolment Test
Little maids need to complete 15 tests in order to be enrolled as a little maid. Enrolment badge is given to each little maid at the enrolment ceremony.
Golden Bar
Little maids need to complete 17 tests in order to be enrolled as a little maid. Enrolment badge is given to each little maid at the enrolment ceremony.
Golden ladder
Little maids need to complete 16 tests in order to get the Golden ladder badge.
Golden hand and Wing
Little maids need to complete 25 tests in order to get the golden hand badge. The little maids will get the opportunity to fly to guides. The little maids will get the privilege to wear the wing badge after enrolling as guide in the guide sash.
Proficiency Badges
There are a total of 36 proficiency badges and the work towards the badges begins after Golden bar. You do not have to have to do all the badges but there are compulsory badges where you can choose based on the options. Please check the Guide Handbook for details.
Proficiency badges give you lots of opportunities to try new skills and hobbies. These are special badges which you can earn when you work by yourself. (Refer to little maid handbook pg.110 -124)
